the message JFK carved on a coconut to summon help for his ten wounded comrades. They were stranded after their PT boat was destroyed in the Pacific. Kennedy - who suffered horrible back problems - personally saved a badly burnt man,  dragging him to the island by clamping onto his life jacket with his teeth. More about his WWII service here.
