In the distant, landline-dominated past people thought: “I have a feeling so I want to make a call.” Young people today seem to be thinking instead: “I want to have a feeling, so I need to make a call.” There is something inorganic, derivative and inauthentic about a lot of mobile communication. As a species we run the risk of letting the permanent wireless social clouds that surround us steal part of our nature.

Does anyone have an Economist subscription who could email me this article? It’s called Homo mobilis, and quotes the work of Sherry Turkle, a psychologist at MIT.

Update: Thank you to Chris for emailing it to me!
